High school and mature students invited to show
artwork, win prizes
St. Lawrence College extended a call
to high school and mature students from across Ontario to “tap” into
their artistic potential for a chance to exhibit their work in the
Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus. The juried
exhibition for emerging artists entitled “UNTAPPED” will be on view
from February 27 to March 23, 2012.
Through the generosity of
St. Lawrence College Alumni monetary prizes will also be awarded:
$2,000 for first place; $1,000 for second place; and $500 for the
third-place winner.
“This is an unprecedented opportunity for
emerging artists to showcase their work in a state-of-the-art
gallery and capture the attention of the arts community,” says
Andrew Hamilton, Professor and Co-ordinator of the Visual and Fine
Arts Program at St. Lawrence College. “We are looking for work that
is challenging, dynamic and innovative, and are excited to shine a
spotlight on the artwork and the talent that we know is currently
untapped.”
Jurors welcome a variety of artworks including
paintings in acrylic, watercolour and oil, drawing, mixed media,
sculpture, photography, pottery, jewellery, ceramics, metal work and
printmaking.
Applicants may submit up to three pieces.
Submissions must be delivered to the gallery on Saturday, February
18 between 10 am and 1 pm. Jury selection will take place from 1 to
4 pm that day. Prizes will be announced during the opening reception
on Saturday, March 3 from 2 to 4 p.m.
*Applicants must be in
high school or mature students. Mature students are defined as those
students that do not have an art certificate, art diploma, and/or
art degree or masters in arts.
